Guiza Method

After many years of experience, La Gubía Equestrian Club has developed a unique training method, built on the extensive education, expertise, and experience of its founders.

The Guiza Method, created by Malen Jaume and David Usón, uses horses and sport as tools to teach children important values and help them develop as individuals, while learning to ride and having fun.

The Guiza Method is inspired by the pyramids of the same name and their remarkable alignment with one another, as well as with the cardinal points. The three pyramids of Giza are remarkably aligned in a way that seems almost impossible to achieve without the help of drones, detailed plans, or computers.

Our method seeks to achieve perfect alignment in your child’s education, balancing all the factors that influence their development: parents, school, and our extracurricular activity.

Through our method, equestrianism not only provides a wide range of physical, psychological, and emotional benefits, but also—and perhaps most importantly—helps develop essential moral values such as responsibility, respect, social skills, empathy, resilience, discipline, perseverance, and personal fulfilment, equipping children with valuable tools for life.

Philosophy

We believe that a child’s learning process, particularly during these early stages, is a physical, psychological, and emotional journey in which children grow and learn about themselves, their surroundings, and the society around them. All of these factors contribute to their development and maturity.

Our Goals

Prepare

Children by providing them with strong foundations and a genuine love for the equestrian world, encouraging them to continue riding and practising equestrian sport throughout their years of growth and personal development.

Enrich

Enrich children during this important stage of their lives, while they are part of our school, by teaching them values such as EFFORT, RESPECT for others and animals, WILLPOWER, EMPATHY, DISCIPLINE, SELF-CONFIDENCE, SELF-ESTEEM, RESPONSIBILITY, TEAMWORK, PERSEVERANCE, CONSISTENCY, HUMILITY, and PATIENCE. Above all, we aim to GUIDE THEM in making the most of their free time through healthy leisure and recreational activities.

Enhance

Enhance all the physical, psychological, and emotional skills that horse riding can provide, supported by instructors trained in a method specifically designed to develop them. These include BALANCE, CONCENTRATION AND SELF-CONTROL, DECISION-MAKING, LATERALITY, BODY DISSOCIATION, SENSITIVITY, SOCIAL AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS, MOTOR COORDINATION, and PERSONAL GROWTH.

For children under four, horse riding can also support their development by helping to stimulate the formation of neural connections associated with the different stages of childhood development.

It has been scientifically proven that children who develop greater self-esteem and confidence are more likely to achieve high levels of success, not only academically, but also professionally and personally.

“IF YOU DON’T HAVE CONFIDENCE, YOU’LL ALWAYS FIND A WAY NOT TO WIN.”
CARL LEWIS

With these principles in mind, and taking into account our students’ psychomotor and social development needs, La Gubia Equestrian Club has created a training programme based on three types of objectives:

Psychomotor and Emotional Objectives

As physical activity in this sport allows us, as previously mentioned, to enhance children’s motor learning at every stage and age. It also helps develop their emotional skills, which are particularly important during this stage of their lives.

Educational Objectives

Where the instructor provides children with the tools they need to find their place in society and enjoy being part of it. To achieve this, as explained above, we instil the appropriate values for each level and age group throughout their riding lessons, whether they are riding ponies or horses.

Technical Objectives

As the ultimate goal is to teach equestrian skills, we must ensure that students develop a proper understanding of the discipline and its specific techniques. Of course, depending on their level, we balance technical training with an appropriate amount of play and fun.

With these principles in mind, and taking into account the psychomotor and social development needs of our students, La Gubia Equestrian Club has created a training programme based on three types of objectives.

Especially during the early stages, we make the most of the importance of play as a learning method. In addition to the proven process of trial, error, correction, and practice, play creates situations that encourage children to use their different senses and apply them across a variety of areas.

They also learn to develop empathy, teamwork, solidarity, and humility, while understanding that mistakes and failures are an essential part of the journey towards success.

A Unique Method

To make our method unique and effective, we divide these stages into different levels within the Riding School and Pony Club, depending on the child’s age, ability, and stage of development. At each level or stage, we work on different physical, psychological, and emotional skills.

We use interaction and a variety of exercises with ponies and horses to reinforce children’s education, focusing on the values that can be best developed at each stage.

The completion of certain levels is determined by an assessment, which in this case marks the beginning of the GALLOPS process.

GALLOPS are level examinations organised by the Spanish Equestrian Federation, through its regional federations and officially accredited clubs, such as ours. They provide an important benchmark for the daily work and progress of both students and instructors.

These examinations allow us to assess the level we have reached and determine whether we are progressing correctly, at the right pace and in the appropriate way.

All our instructors are qualified professionals certified by the Royal Spanish Equestrian Federation and are supervised by a technical director and an international coach, who establish the guidelines for each level and each lesson and individually oversee any case requiring technical intervent
In addition, a technical meeting is held every morning to discuss relevant matters, individual students, incidents from previous lessons, changes in students’ levels, and adjustments to the training of horses or riders. The day’s lessons are also planned, and horses and ponies are assigned to each student. For adult students, we use the same method and the same level-based structure. However, the technical demands and the development of their physical, emotional, and psychological skills vary depending on their age, character, aptitude, physical condition, attitude, and experience.
